June has seen the team at Polson Higgs focused on supporting our community. Last week we had the YES Pitch Days, and next week we will have the Young Farmers Innovation competition. Alongside this we are currently looking for a community sports club that we can provide $1,000 sponsorship too.

Young Enterprise Scheme Pitch Days
The Young Enterprise Scheme (YES) is an opportunity for students to unleash their inner entrepreneur and experience the start-up world first-hand. It is an experiential programme where students set up and run a real business. Each YES company creates their own product or service and brings this to market.
At the beginning of June, 60 different Young Enterprise Teams walked through the doors at Polson Higgs office to "pitch" their start-ups to a dragon den of judges. All of the judges were impressed by the high level of preparation that went into all the presentations.
One of our Accountants, Liam Galbreath, had a chat with the girls from "Wonder Waffle Cone Chips" to find out how their pitch went and where they are at with their start up. Click on the video below to watch.

Innovation Competition
After successfully hosting three days of Young Enterprise Entrepreneurs we now turn our focus to the agricultural sector. Together with NZ Young Farmers we have created the Polson Higgs Innovation Competition for year 12 & 13 TeenAg Students or Students studying Agriculture at school. Each contestant has to deliver a 5 minute presentation on "What farming will look like in the year 2040!?".
The judging panel is composed of a judge from Young Farmers, Polson Higgs and a special industry guest judge.
Introducing Chloe Belfield - Young Farmers Judge
I’m currently based in Palmerston, but am a Waikato girl through and through. My current role is Area Manager for Fonterra, where I retain milk in our Co-Operative alongside balancing relationship management with my 162 farmers across Central to South Otago.
I started my journey in Young Farmers when I was 17 and have been involved in some awesome clubs across the country, including Massey University where I organized a bus trip for 150 students. It was a night to remember for sure!
Alongside being the Chairwoman for our Otago/Southland Regional Young Farmers, I’m also involved with developing my strategic and governance skills in the Jersey NZ Youth Council and Federated Farmers committee. We are in an amazing industry and if you look close enough there are fantastic opportunities around to be taken up or involved with.
Polson Higgs Community Boost
The Polson Higgs “Community Boost” programme is about supporting the organisations that make a difference in our community. Polson Higgs has always provided valuable support to local charities, so it was a natural progression to support community-based sports clubs.
Most of the team at Polson Higgs are involved in some way with a local sports club. Because of that we understand first-hand the challenges that those clubs face every day. So, for the next three months we are going to give a $1,000 sponsorship to community sports clubs.
Nominations are now open for you to nominate a sports club that you think deserves to receive a $1,000 boost.
All you have to do is email the name of the sports club you would like to nominate and tell us why they deserve a $1,000.00 boost to marketing@ph.co.nz by the Friday 26 June.
