Events Crew get a taste of introductory event coordination

The Events Crew project is currently delivering a pilot program at Smithfield High in partnership with Coast FM and James Cook University (JCU) Student Association.  A group of secondary and tertiary students are joining forces in the weekly events management training workshop program to produce Kaleidoscope a fusion gig of electronic beats and live bands with a multiarts twist at The JCU Boathouse on Sat 22 June 2013.

Arts and Cultural Community Lunch highlights

Our May Arts and Cultural Community Lunch was held yesterday, Rebecca Edwards, Event Coordinator takes us through the highlights.

Arts and Cultural Community Lunch is an event where all people who are interested in arts and culture in Cairns can gather with like-minded people, to network, to discuss their exciting projects, to explore collaborations and to enjoy lunch.

In 2013 Creative Partnerships worked alongside Cultural Place to present two lunches within the Dugong Lane venue space.

Yesterday, Jordan Brodie; Queensland Music Award winning 17 year old instrumental guitarist performed and entertained attendees as part of A-Venue Cairns' Showcase at Events program.

In May, Creative Partnerships presented an additional element to the lunch; through an application process guest attendees shared their creativity! Terri Golding-Clarke, Team Leader, Creative Partnerships introduced and shared the stage with creative locals and visitors.

At the opening of the lunch Damon and Robert from Cultural Place shared a Welcome to Country, including a moving didgeridoo performance.

Roz Pappalardo; arts worker, project manager and developer, songwriter, band manager, playwright, actor and traveller shared her project Rosa and mesmerised us with a song for the theatre work.

Imogene Shields, Creative Director, Youth Arts Queensland (YAQ) Brisbane detailed YAQ's support for the industry and young creatives in Cairns, and shared YAQ’s exciting new direction.

Suzie Cray, ABC Open Local Producer explained ABC Open’s online initiative; that focuses on publishing stories created by regional Australians including free workshops training people in digital literacy skills. Suzie shared ABC Open’s free media workshops that she will present in our local region.
