The Awards are the culmination of lots of hard work by everyone.

- Our independent judges have had a lot more high-quality entries to judge.
- Over 200 people attended the Finalist function at the Upper Hutt Cossie Club.
- And 500 people will come together on Friday night to celebrate their business, their teams, their customers and their hard work.

Hutt City Council Annual Report 2022-23
The Hutt Valley Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce that the Hutt City Council's 2022-23 Group Annual Report has been officially approved by the Council and audited. This significant document highlights the Council's performance against the Annual Plan 2022-23, showcasing their commitment to fostering a city where everyone can thrive.
Throughout the past year, the Council has faced and overcome considerable challenges, demonstrating resilience and progress in achieving their goals. A notable achievement includes the upgrading of the city's infrastructure. An impressive 14.5km of pipes have been upgraded, a feat unmatched by any other Council in the region. The Council's dedication is further evident in their significant capital investment of $156.8 million, which encompasses $69.5 million in three waters infrastructure, $25.8 million in transport projects, and $26.3 million in the development of the new Naenae Pool and Fitness Centre.
Looking ahead, the Hutt City Council is aware of the ongoing challenges and remains dedicated to working collaboratively to continue making a positive impact in Te Awa Kairangi ki Tai Lower Hutt. Their unwavering focus is to ensure the city and its people not only succeed but thrive.
Upper Hutt City Council CE appointed
Mayor Wayne Guppy has announced Geoff Swainson as Upper Hutt City Council’s new Chief Executive.
Originally from Wairoa, Swainson moved to Wellington with his family in 2005 to take up the Manager of Infrastructure and Economic Development role at Local Government New Zealand (LGNZ).
He then moved on to Wellington City Council in 2012 to manage the transport network before taking up the Director of Asset Management and Operations and Civil Defence Controller at Upper Hutt City Council in 2017.

Greater Wellington invites Hutt Valley Workplaces and Businesses to join a Quarterly Workplace Travel Forum.
This is an informal in person/online quarterly forum.
You can sign up to attend the forum here to access initiatives that support staff travel:

Business Continuity Planning Workshop
Disruption could come in many forms – a major earthquake, flood, a prolonged power cut or even the sudden unavailability of you or a skilled member of your staff.
It is important that businesses are prepared and have a plan in place to respond to emergencies.
Having a plan in place and practising it ensure you can keep doing what you do best. We would like to invite you to our free two-hour business continuity workshop which is tailored for community businesses. This in-person workshop is an opportunity to learn not only from your local Emergency Advisor but the collective experience of other community businesses.
Throughout the two hours we will guide you through our 10 steps to business continuity planning.

A Shining Example of Vocational Excellence at Upper Hutt College
We are thrilled to announce that Emilie Campbell, a remarkable student from Upper Hutt College, has been awarded the prestigious Prime Minister's Vocational Excellence Award for 2023. This accolade recognizes her as the most outstanding Trades/Gateway student of the year, a testament to her hard work and dedication. Throughout the year, Emilie gained valuable work experience with the Greater Wellington Regional Council’s Park Rangers department in Upper Hutt, honing her skills and knowledge in a real-world setting.
Emilie's journey towards a bright future has been further bolstered through the support of our Education to Employment Coordinator, Amanda Walters, who introduced her to the Fulton Hogan Open Space Maintenance team. Starting with casual employment while she completes her final exams at college, Emilie has been warmly welcomed into the team. The support and guidance provided by Fulton Hogan have been instrumental in easing her transition into the workforce. She eagerly anticipates her full-time employment post-exams and is excited to embark on her Horticultural Apprenticeship in the New Year, where she will apply the skills she has acquired over the past year.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Fulton Hogan for their commitment to empowering our school leavers with diverse employment opportunities. Emilie's success is not just a personal achievement but also a shining example of the fruitful collaboration between education and industry, paving the way for future students at Upper Hutt College.

Layer3 launches New Zealand based cyber security service for remote work.
Layer3 has announced its collaboration with the US-based security firm Todyl to launch "Secure Anywhere," a cloud-based security solution. This innovative platform enables distributed workforces to connect securely to various networks from anywhere, leveraging Todyl's Secure Global Network™ Cloud Platform.
It marks a significant shift in making advanced security accessible to small and medium-sized organizations, rather than being limited to enterprises. The partnership extends Todyl's network into New Zealand, with a new point of presence set to activate by December 1, 2023.
Secure Anywhere integrates Zero Trust functionality and is designed to protect organizations in hybrid work environments. The launch is timely, given recent increases in phishing and malware incidents in New Zealand. Layer3, a leader in IT management and cybersecurity in New Zealand, and Todyl, a Denver-based company specialising in comprehensive security solutions, aim to revolutionise cybersecurity accessibility for businesses of varying sizes.
Pretzels, Bagels, and Rēwena - coming soon to Miramar!
Little Bread Loaf, a popular and proudly Māori-owned bakery in Lower Hutt, is expanding its presence with the opening of a second location in Miramar on November 14. Originally a small establishment, the bakery has seen significant growth, becoming a fixture at weekend markets and festivals in the Wellington region.
Owner Lynda McGregor, who is of multiple Māori descent, has been actively involved in the community, often delivering baked goods to customers in the Eastern Suburbs. The bakery is known for its modern twist on traditional favorites, offering items like topped bagels, rēwena baps, and giant flavored pretzels. They have also collaborated with Double Vision Brewing for 'Pretzel Fridays' and partnered with Dirty Donuts, another popular local bakery.
The new Miramar branch, which received an enthusiastic response from the community, will feature a range of baked delights and Dirty Donuts products, marking their first availability in the Eastern suburbs. The grand opening event has attracted significant interest, with nearly 400 locals RSVPing. Little Bread Loaf invites the Miramar community to join them on opening day for a complimentary coffee with any purchase, as a gesture of thanks for the warm welcome.
