The last month has seen both elections and AGM's for the State and National Boards take place. The Equestrian Victoria AGM was held on October 28 and the results of the Board election were announced.. Suzie Battan will join the Board and brings with her expertise in Communications, Marketing and grant writing so will be able to help EV in those areas that urgently need assistance. Thankyou very much for the support from our members who have entrusted their faith in me for another term.
Finances still have to be foremost in our minds as EV has posted very few profitable P and L's. As a result there is still an enormous amount of hard work to be done just to get to a positive balance. There are robust discussions taking place at board level over the balance between investing in the discipline development and repairing the negative financial situation. I would welcome all ideas in this complex conundrum.
Thanks to the enormous amount of hard work by Justin Hocking the 2015 WPNEC financials have been completed and sent to both the auditors and Parks. This was the next step in the lease discussions with Parks Victoria.Justin is a former highly respected eventer and he has now joined his wife in the dressage arena . We are extremely grateful for his many hours of voluntary work in sorting out the past few years of WPNEC finances and guiding us in the right direction.
On the EA front there has been considerable activity - EA Board elections saw the return of Eliza Carver and Mark Hopkinson and the two new people joining the National Board are Daniel Stoneman and Christopher Strying. EA have been also going through the long process of searching for a new CEO and the successful candidate will be announced shortly. The 6 member States held joint discussions and elected an independent person to be an integral part of the CEO selection process. Grant Baldock bid his farewell at the EA AGM in Sydney and we wish him well in his new venture and thank him for his work and effort. The EA Chair, Judy Fasher has just returned from the FEI forum in San Juan, Porto Rico where Boyd Excell was awarded the prestigious title of FEI Best Athlete. Boyd currently holds both indoor and outdoor World Driving Titles and has been World Champion an amazing 6 times. In
winning this title Boyd edged out Charlotte Dujardin, Ingrid Klimke, William Fox-Pitt and Jerom Dubbeldam.
Adelaide 4 star Horse Trials have just finished and Victoria was very capably represented. The extreme weather conditions and a stomach bug that went through the riders camps would have added many degrees of difficulty to this already very tough event. Congratulations to our riders and teams who did so well and comiserations to those where
reality deviated from the plan. A new addition to the event was the Eventing, Showjumping and Dressage Grand Finals where our riders had great results. The Dressage saw our Young Riders take the lead and we congratulate Morgan Duell for winning the individual title and being a member of the winning team. It does not seem to be very long ago that Florinz and Morgan were having their first outings at Inter school and Young Rider Competitions. A member of the winning team was Stuart Archibald who was also the very worthy Dressage Ambassador for the event. It is fantastic to watch the development and journey these younger riders have taken and I wish them all the best in the next stage.
Continuing with the Young Rider news - The Jumpers headed off to New Zealand recently for the Trans Tasman Challenge and riding borrowed horses jumped amazing rounds and came home victors. These riders have long been a part of our successful Victorian Squads which provide not only support and training but amazing opportunities for young athletes to have a taste of competing on a larger stage.
Preparation is in the final stages for the Australasian Show Horse Titles and the Dressage Festival. These amazing events can only take place through the hard work of our our dedicated volunteers. If you would like to help at these events there are some some small volunteering roles that are yet to be filled. We thank all the volunteers who contribute and provide such amazing competitions and spectacles for everyone to enjoy. Without you this could not happen.
I would like to conclude by saying how much we welcome, encourage and need communication and feed back from our members. If you have any queries, suggestions, ideas and solutions please don't hesitate to contact me.
