These are informal and informative networking sessions for those working in the Barnet VCS, where we can come together to discuss environmental issues in the Borough, and work out how we as a sector can make a difference. Cutbacks stopping vital work on river pollution and floods in England

Vital work on river pollution and flood defences is being stopped or cut back because the Environment Agency has been underfunded for years, freedom of information documents reveal. A shortfall in funding of tens of millions of pounds is having real world consequences for our rivers, according to a letter from Emma Howard Boyd, the chair of the EA, to George Eustice, the environment secretary. The letter was obtained by River Action, a campaigning body, under FOI laws. READ MORE

GCF Care Farming Awareness Event

Are you interested in finding our more about care farming and green care providers? The Growing Care Farming project at Social Farms & Gardens is hosting this awareness event where you can find out more about how the GCF project supports providers of green care/care farming. The main part of the session will be presentations from two South of England based care farmers. There will also be opportunities to put your questions on care farming and green care to the presenters and knowledgeable panel members. The session will also provide an opportunity to network through the chat and talk about how the development of local peer support networks can support the growth of the green care sector.

Eligible for residents who... - have disabilities or long-term health conditions.

- have children under 10 years.

- with energy costs that are more than 10% of household income.

The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) tree planting initiative

Schools to community organisations are encouraged to get involved in Planting a Tree for the Platinum Jubilee in celebration of The Queen’s 70 years of Service to the Nation. The Woodland Trust is a partner of the QGC and their Free Trees for Schools and Communities Scheme is a great way to get involved with tree planting. Across 2021 and 2022 they have over three million saplings in tree packs, available on a
first come first served basis. Information on how to apply for the free saplings is available through the Woodland Trust website. See the PLAN about where to plant and how to secure a healthy tree which is right for your location.

Enfield's Big Green Climate Festival
Enfield Climate Action Forum (EnCaf), is encouraging organisations and businesses to get involved in its Enfield’s Big Green Climate Festival - which is being held as part of the Climate Coalition's nationwide festival from 18th - 26th Sept - to highlight the climate change crisis and put pressure on world leaders, especially in advance of the COP26 meeting in Glasgow in November.
Enterprise Enfield will be hosting 2 webinars during the week- aimed at encouraging businesses to reduce their environmental impact.
