To: Health Care Professionals in Niagara
From: Health Promotion and Foundational Standards Division, Niagara Region Public Health
Reference: Discontinuation of the Niagara Region Tobacco Hotline – April 30, 2026
Date: April 28, 2026

In follow up to the announcement in the March Public Health Pulse newsletter, this memo is to inform you that the Niagara Region Tobacco Hotline will be permanently discontinued as of April 30, 2026. After this date, the line will no longer be monitored or available for patient use.

We continue to support individuals who wish to quit smoking or vaping through several free, accessible cessation services both locally and provincially. Please direct patients to any of the following resources:

  • STOP on the Net - An online program offering free nicotine replacement therapy  (NRT) to eligible participants through visiting Quit Smoking with STOP on the Net to complete an online survey. Products will be mailed to the patient directly.
  • Ottawa Model for Smoking Cessation (OMSC) - Phone program that offers free NRT products and counselling for individuals in Ontario. Interested patients can call 1-888-645-5405 and leave their contact information on voicemail. A Nicotine Addiction Specialist will return their call and products will be mailed to the patient directly.
  • Niagara Region Public Health - https://www.niagararegion.ca/

Action Required:

  • Please remove and dispose of any remaining Quit Smoking posters, tear-offs, and Tobacco Hotline business cards by April 30, 2026. Updated resources directing patients to the programs listed above can be ordered through our clinical and patient resources page.

If you have any questions or require more information, please contact tobacco-free@niagararegion.ca.
