BECOME A VOLUNTEER

EWA is now accepting expressions of interest from people wanting to volunteer at our events for 2018. Volunteers have the opportunity to learn about the sport by listening to judges’ comments, understanding how judging and timing works, as well as assist with understanding with the rules. Some volunteers are also eligible for money in honorarium for donating their time to the event. MORE

D'ARCY SLATER FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS CLOSING SOON

2018-19 EA ENDURANCE COMMITTEE NOMINATIONS REOPENED

The Equestrian Australia Endurance Committee are once again calling for expressions of interest for the remaining 2018/2019 positions. The committee currently still have two positions vacant, including the Riders’ Representative. Applications close Friday 23 March 2018. MORE

REMINDER TO ALL JUDGES & OFFICIALS

Did you know that if you are not a current EA member you will not show on the EA Officials Search? With many clubs now booking judges and officials for their upcoming events, it is important for you to renew your membership if you would like clubs to be able to contact you. Renewing online only takes a few minutes and is effective immediately.

CHANGES TO NCAS COACHING SCHEME

Equestrian Australia today advised that the Australian Sports Commission is retiring the NCAS initiative and that NCAS Coaches must now remove all reference to the “NCAS” acronym from their accreditation titles.

No other changes are taking place at this stage, but EA will be rolling out the new Coaching Pathway later this year. Those currently enrolled in a course should not be affected and will have ample time (12 months at least) to complete their course and gain recognition into the new Coaching Pathway. MORE

2018 COACHES COMPULSORY UPDATE

Coaches are requested to save the date for the 2018 Coaches Compulsory Update to be held on Monday 12 March at the State Equestrian Centre. The day will include:

• Craig Barrett EA Level 2 Eventing Specialist and Coach Educator
• Helen Cunningham from the WA Sports Federation on the Working With Children legislation
• Roz Tippett an EA Level 3 Dressage Specialist on Coaching to improve Dressage marks
• Insurance Webinar by Gow Gates
• A discussion on changes to the coaching system

Registration will be from 8.15am for a 9:00am start. The registration form will be available on the EWA website soon. Proof of current Senior First Aid Certification and Working With Children clearance will be required.

DRESSAGE SQUAD SELECTIONS UNDERWAY

Selections are now underway for the EWA La Noir Saddleworld Dressage High Performance Squads for 2018. Unlike some of the other discipline squads, the Dressage Squads are not open for public application. Athletes are selected based upon the criteria and their results from the preceding six to twelve months. Successful athletes will be sent a letter of invitation in mid-February. MORE

DRESSAGE COMPETITION INCENTIVES FOR CLUBS

DWA is offering EWA-affiliated clubs (including dressage and adult riding clubs) the opportunity to apply for retrospective subsidies when running official dressage competitions (Participant and Competitive). Your club could be eligible for up to $1000 per competition, depending on the number of tests ridden and the level of classes offered. The subsidy will only be offered for two events per club. MORE

DWA is excited to announce its 2018 Dressage Leaderboard. The Leaderboard runs from 1 January 2018 - 31 December 2018 and includes all WA Dressage Competitions. Open to EWA Competitor, Participant and Adult Rider members. MORE

Officials are reminded that reaccreditations are due every three years. Dressage Judges whose accreditations expire in 2018 must be able to meet the reaccreditation requirements by 31 March 2018. Forms will be available from the Equestrian Australia website in mid-February. MORE

EOI FOR SHOW HORSE RIDERS’ REPRESENTATIVE

The EWA Show Horse Committee are seeking expressions of interest to join the committee to represent the EWA Show Horse Riders. The successful applicant will have:

• Excellent communication skills
• A clear understanding of the discipline of Show Horse
• The ability to work cohesively with a hardworking group of Show Horse enthusiasts
• The ability to see the ‘big picture’ when contributing to the making of decisions
• The ability to attend monthly meetings regularly
• Be prepared to assist in the organisation of events

HOTY QUALIFYING EVENTS

Eligible Events:

• EWA Autumn Pageant
• EWA Winter Gala
• Any affiliated EWA event (including Ag Shows) providing event is run under EA National Show Horse rules and an accredited EA judge is presiding.

Ineligible Events:

• EWA Horse of the Year
• Perth Royal Show
• Show Horse Council WA Classic
• Show Horse Council WA Western Stars
• Show Horse Council Horse of the Year
• Gosnells Masters
• Any other events not run under EA National Show Horse Rules

EWA Horse of the Year placings do not count as an attendance as the purpose of qualifications is to encourage competitors to support clubs.
