Today the Te Arawa Fisheries Group has launched its new Aka Rākau Programme, a key part of our Ka Pu Te Ruha, Ka Hao te Rangatahi climate change strategy to practically lower emissions across our group and offsetting these emissions through planting new forests on Te Arawa lands. ![]() Launched in September, the number one goal of our climate change strategy is to preserve our planet for future generations planting permanent regenerating forests is our way forward. Forests provide a safe haven for our endangered wildlife and native flora to rejuvenate, while they also enhance our environment. We are seeking to partner with Te Arawa land owners to turn under-utilised land into permanent rejuvenating, native forests that will offset our carbon emissions, provide a return to the landowner, create local jobs and protect our environment for the future. We have assembled a world-class team of experts in: • Exotic and indigenous forestry; ![]() Te Arawa Land Recruitment Strategy Principles of our Aka Rākau kaupapa include: · Practically respond to the threat of climate-change; · Reduce and eliminate all our emissions; · Create new and attractive financial returns from under-utilised lands; · Create jobs for our whānau (forestry and nursery operations); · Plant exotic as well as indigenous trees on the whenua; · Assist and enable water quality through prevention of silt and nutrient runoff into streams, rivers, lakes, our estuaries and the moana.
