Dear ,

I am writing to provide you with information about the changes announced by the QLD Government regarding health practitioners who travel from NSW to QLD for work purposes.

Under the current border restrictions, a person can enter QLD to perform “essential work” that cannot be done at home. “Essential work” refers to work that is necessary to maintain essential services and supplies to the community or to a part of the community performed by a medical practitioner or other “prescribed health practitioner”.

A person can also enter QLD to receive “essential health care”.

“Essential health care” is any care that is not available in a person’s state or territory or cannot reasonably be provided in their home state or territory, via telehealth or virtual health. This includes routine clinical care where there is a continuity of service with an established clinical relationship.

“Essential health care” includes an appointment with a prescribed health practitioner confirmed in writing by the practitioner on the form approved by the Chief Health Officer.

However, importantly please note that audiologists do not fall within the current list of “prescribed health practitioners” and so – audiologists travelling from NSW - are not able to enter QLD to provide face to face audiology services at present.

More information about current arrangements is available here and the border restriction direction is available here.

We are actively working with the Queensland Department of Health and our Allied Health Profession Association colleagues to try and resolve this issue as this affects a number of allied health professions.

Please stay safe, and if there is anything we can do to assist you during this time, please don't hesitate to contact the office on 03 9940 3900 or email: info@audiology.asn.au

Yours sincerely,

Dr Tony Coles
