Lighted boat contest and parade winners announced!
The winners of this year's lighted boat contest and parade were revealed at last Friday's rollicking Holiday DID. The panel of esteemed judges report that they had a very difficult time picking just a few boats for recognition when all the boats looked so festive. Thank you to this year's judges: Leslie and Jim Fish and Christine and Ted Eberle.

With more than 10 boats decorated in the marinas to review, the judges walked the docks marveling at every detail of the luminous creations. After viewing the boats, the judges returned to warm themselves at the club and to count their ballots…and the winners are:

First Place- Cliff and Anna Kramer's "Boundless" with its giant martini glass and twirling candy canes.
Second place- Bill and Betty's "Bonne Bette"  A perennial favorite in the Redwood Landing Marina.
Third Place- Robin and Nick Weber's "Webtide" with its fabulous "burgee of lights".

Friday night six festively festooned vessels participated in the Lighted Boat Parade. The parade included Malcolm Fleige, Scott Johnson and crew on "Picante"; Carol and Tim Petersen and crew on "Sea breeze"; Anna and Cliff Kramer and crew on "Boundless"; Nick Weber and crew on "Webtide"; Carole and Commodore Winston Bumpus and crew (including granddaughters) on "Dolci Sogni" and Mirth with the esteemed judges as crew. The parader's boats glowed on the still water as they circled the turning basin to the cheers of the holiday revelers on shore and the Christmas music blasting from the boats.

Again the judges found it difficult to choose a winner because all of the boats looked so great.

First Place- Cliff and Anna Kramer's "Boundless".
Second Place- Robin and Nick Weber's "Webtide".
Third Place- Carole and Commodore Winston Bumpus' "Dolci Sogni"

Happy Holidays,

A Fun Holiday Drop-in-Dinner

The Infamous 12 Days of Christmas

Christmas Singing by the Women

Christmas Singing by the Men

What a fun Holiday Drop-in Dinner we had last Friday night at the Club following the lighted boat parade. With decorations by our Social Chair Kathy Harris, along with the help from Vice Commodore Dan Lockwood, all was very festiive. The house was packed and the meal was terrific.

After dnner, the awards for the lighted boats were presented then the festivities and music began. Following the singing of traditional Christmas music, our infamous tradition of the 12 Days of Christmas began. (Costumes provided by Deb Blackmore and orchestration by Sue Lockwood).

It was a great night for family and friends to start the Christmas holiday break and to enjoy each others' company.

Thanks to all who attended and participated in making this a fun kick off to the Holidays.

Redwood Cup Race #2

Twelve boats ignored Christmas shopping on Saturday, Dec 21, to participate in the second race of the five race Redwood Cup series.  It was a beautiful day on the Bay; warm and sunny with flat water and winds of about 10 knots.  The 9.8 mile course included four mark roundings with reaching and running sections resulting in frequent lead changes.  All boats finished within three hours, so the bar at Sequoia Yacht Club was lively after the race.

The Antrim 27 “Head Rush,” skippered by Charlie Watt, took the lead on the last leg to win.  In second place was Tracy Rogers on the J-88 “Relentless” followed by Mike Read on “Magic,” an Express 27, and Rich Butts the J-105  Melilani.

The next Redwood Cup will be on January 18, 2014.  Come to Sequoia Yacht Club for true South Bay racing.  The Skippers’ meeting is at noon.  The first start of the pursuit race is at 1:30.
