RB BURN BABY BURN wins the Filly/Mare division of the
Grade 3 Arabian Racing Cup Stallion Stakes with DC Willeys Song in hot pursuit

October 18, 2014 - Lone Star Park - Nine fancy fillies went to post for the Grade 3 Arabian Racing Cup Stallion Stakes on Saturday, October 18. RB BURN BABY BURN, a 4 year old filly by TH Richie out of Burning Firestar by Big Easy, showed her class once again, earning her third major stakes victory in Texas.

With blinkers off for the first time, RB BURN BABY BURN settled just off the pace under able guidance of jockey Ramon Guce. RB BURN BABY BURN made her move at the half mile pole and began a battle with SAND ON FIRE who had the lead.

When the herd of tightly packed fillies thundered around the final turn, DC WILLEYS SONG was near the back. This big and ominous dark mare with the lanky look of a thoroughbred charged up to take second place. SAND ON FIRE held on for third.

RB BURN BABY BURN moving up in the stretch to the lead, crossed the finish line winning by a length. RB BURN BABY BURN is trained by Elizabeth ("Lizzie") Merryman, and was attended and saddled for this race by assistant trainer Alli Rawles. Rider on the filly, Ramon Guce, had just won the colt/gelding division of this Grade 3 event on VALIANT BOY SBFAR an hour before.

RB BURN BABY BURN has won 7 of her 15 starts and placed second twice and third three times. She won the TEXAS YELLOW ROSE Grade 2 stake in February at Sam Houston Race Park, and then came back to win the H.H. SHEIKHA FATIMA BINT MUBARAK LADIES WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP (IFAHR) in March of this year. Running under Rosebrook Silks, she was Leading Arabian Racehorse in USA, of all ages all sexes in first half of 2014. In the summer she was acquired by Guy Neivens, who now holds the leading spot as top owner in the USA with a record of 34(7-3-7)3-2 $168,935 for 2014.

Second place DC WILLEYS SONG is trained by Jerenesto Torrez and was ridden by Luis Vivanco. This 6 year old mare is a daughter of Doran SBFAR and out of Wibwilcca, by Wilkolak. DC WILLEYS SONG has run 18 times, with 4 firsts, 5 seconds and 3 thirds, earnings of $59,505. She ran third in Delaware in the Grade 1 Buzz Brauninger Arabian Distaff Handicap in July, beating RB BURN BABY BURN in that event. DC WILLEYS SONG is owned by Texans Krista and Jon Henningsgard and was bred by Dan and Claudia Spears.

Third place SAND ON FIRE is a daughter of Burning Sand, out of the mare B J Zell by Brusally Orlen. She is owned by her breeder, Jane Teutsch of Estrellita Ranch in Texas, and is trained by Kenny Massey. SAND ON FIRE has 5 wins, 6 seconds and 6 thirds from 27 starts, including a Grade 2 victory in the Texas Yellow Rose Stakes in 2013, and 6 other stakes placings. She was ridden by Juan Garcia, Jr.
