Happy New Year!

Warm wishes from Wolfson. We hope you had a relaxing Christmas break and were lucky enough to spend it with family or friends. As we have entered 2021, it is clear due to the situation, Wolfson will have to continue to predominantly connect with our Alumni, members and supporters digitally. We hope to keep you engaged with the College through online events, sharing news and updates about College life. Sign up to the event mailing list to keep up to date with what's on at Wolfson.

You should have received your Wolfson Annual Review in the post now. We hope you are enjoying hearing your feedback. You can also view a copy online here.

We hope it is not too long until we are able to welcome you back to the College to celebrate together.

Until then, watch out for our 2021 programme, keep safe and stay in touch!

Best wishes,

Kendall Collett
Alumni Relations Manager

Humanities Society - Commemorating War Dead in Ancient Athens from Homer to Thucydides

In this talk, Dr Cezary will provide an overview of his latest book, "The Treatment of the War Dead in Archaic Athens: An Ancestral Custom" (Bloomsbury Academic 2020). Exploring a variety of ancient sources, including the Homeric poems, depictions of combat on vases, and funerary monuments for fallen warriors, Cezary will discuss the unique significance of the war dead in the cultural imagination of the Athenians, explaining why ancient modes of war commemoration remain relevant to modern discussions about how we remember and commemorate military conflict.
