How JC Penney tried – and failed – to cheat Google for their own benefit

JCP wanted to show up high in the organic results for a number of search phrases (ie: "black dress," "refrigerators"), and used a method called "link backs," but tried to cheat, and it came back and bit them in the butt.

It's an interesting story, and shows that no one is exempt from the “Rules of Google.” Read about it in The NYTimes here, or listen to the radio interview here.
