Perth Waterfront Development
Thanks for all the feedback from club members regarding the Barrack Street Development, which has now come to be known as Elizabeth Quay. Some of the Committee met with an Metropolitan Redevelopment Board (MRA) representative at the end of May.
The good news is that the MRA's vision is for Westies to be part of Elizabeth Quay and encourage more people to using the foreshore area. The meeting was positive and a real desire from the MRA to work with WARC. As the only recreational club in the precinct the MRA is hoping that the development brings more people to the Elizabeth Quay area.
Outcomes from the meeting were:
- Transporting boats to and from regattas and access for deliveries to Sassy's and the Function room
will be able tocontinue.
- The MRA have been informed of dimensions of boat trailers and access requirements.
- There have been no changes for parking.
- In future WARC will liaise through the MRA to the City of Perth for parking matters.
- Enquiries are being made about how the proposed jetty expansion will affect the Club.
The WARC committee know this is a controversial development which club members may have different views about. The club's position is that we are still in negotiation and working with the MRA on the project. Public comment on the redevelopment closed on the 5th of June and there is more information available at http://www.mra.wa.gov.au/Projects/Elizabeth-Quay/About-the-Project/. I should stress that we are still working with the MRA; if any member wishes to use their club membership as context for their opinion they are welcome to do so, but please ensure that you state that you are not speaking on the behalf of the club.
We will keep you informed as soon as any more information comes to hand, and if you have any further enquiries, please contact any member of the management committee.

Rowing Memorabilia Project
Rowing Australia, with the support of the Bobby Pearce Foundation and Sport Australia Hall of Fame, has launched a project to secure and display very significant rowing memorabilia which is being auctioned shortly. These memorabilia items include the Olympic Gold Medals won by Bobby Pearce Jr in 1928 and 1932.
Rowing Australia is seeking generous donations to ensure that these valuable and significant pieces of Australian rowing history are not lost to the Australian sporting community. A letter and flyer providing further details of this project are attached, along with a donation form.
All contributions for this project will be recognised by Rowing Australia. To enquire further, contact Matt Treglown at mtreglown@rowingaustralia.com.au
