Ryan Sheets, Media & Professional Communications

Oakland Food Frenzy & Networking Social

Date: Friday, January 23, 2015

Time: 6-8 p.m.

Location: The McCarl Center

 

The CGS Student Government/Alumni Society Networking Social will be the first event hosted by the CGS Student Ambassadors for the spring 2015 term. This event will be similar to last year's highly successful “Food Fest." Participants will have an opportunity to feast on some of the most popular cuisine available from the restaurants in Oakland. There will also be a live musical performance. RSVP to sbrown@pitt.edu.

Time Management Workshop

CGS Spring Hours

To better assist our students, the College of General Studies and the McCarl Center for Nontraditional Student Success will now be open late on Thursdays during the spring semester.

Our weekly hours are: Monday-Thursday, 8:30 a.m.-7 p.m. and Friday 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m.

Additional Supplemental Aid Awards

Applications for CGS' Supplemental Aid Scholarship are still being accepted. This scholarship is awarded based on financial need, and qualifitying students will recieve $1,000 for the spring term. Applications can be found on our Web site and must be returned to Jillian Rodgers by Wednesday, January 14.

General Education Outcomes Assessment Program: February 2015

CGS is looking for degree-seeking CGS students to participate in a liberal arts critical thinking assessment designed to measure our programs. The assessment, which takes about 40 minutes to complete, will be held in the McCarl Center Conference Room. To see the available time-slots and to register for the exam, please visit our site.

Paid Writing Internships

Are work obligations or living expenses getting in the way of you landing your dream writing-intensive internship? If so, you could qualify for a grant to help you with your financial needs. In collaboration with Pitt's English Department, CGS students are invited to apply for an opportunity to be paid for a writing internship. Interested students should talk to their CGS adviors. Because all internships must be decided by the end of the add/drop period, instrested students are encouraged to act quickly.

Academic Achievement Scholarship

Have you been invited to attend a conference to present research or a project but not sure how to afford the travel? CGS can help! We are accepting applications for our Academic Achievement Scholarship. If you qualify, this scholarship could cover the cost of your travel and conference fee. See our Web site for the scholarship requirements and application.

Resume Building Workshop

Come learn about the basic building blocks to crafting a winning resume. One-on-one resume reviews will be available after the presentation for those students who bring a draft of their resume.

Interview Skills & Practice Workshop

Date: Tuesday, February 3, 2015

Time: 4-5:30 p.m.

Location: The McCarl Center

 

Interviewing is a skill that is learned through practice and more practice. Come hear about the tips and tricks to help prepare and get some practice answering those “tough” questions.
