Gratitude Challenge The Gratitude Jar. I witnessed this challenge in action at a community this past week. It's simple, yet effective and can be implemented when you return to the community on Monday. The gratitude jar challenge involves creating a physical jar or container where team members can leave notes of appreciation for their colleagues. To begin, gather a few supplies such as a jar, slips of paper, and pens. You can use a clear jar so that team members can see the notes inside, or you can decorate the jar with stickers or markers to make it more visually appealing. For larger communities, place multiple jars in breakrooms and other areas where teams meet. Next, explain the gratitude jar to your team and encourage them to participate. Announce the gratitude jar to your leadership team and then at an all staff meeting. To participate, team members can simply write a note of appreciation for a colleague on a slip of paper and place it in the jar. The notes can be anonymous or signed, and can be as short or as long as the team member wishes. One way to further enhance the impact of the gratitude jar is to involve residents in the process. You can encourage residents to write notes of appreciation for staff members and add them to the jar. This can help to foster stronger relationships between residents and staff and create a sense of community. Finally, make sure to periodically review and share the notes from the gratitude jar. You can do this at staff meetings, or you can create a display board where the notes can be posted for all to see. By creating a gratitude jar, you can foster a culture of appreciation and gratitude within your team. This simple activity can help to boost morale and build stronger connections among your team members. In addition to providing a tangible way for team members to show appreciation for each other, a gratitude jar can also help to improve overall team dynamics and increase job satisfaction. When team members feel valued and appreciated, they are more likely to be motivated and engaged in their work. This can lead to better collaboration, productivity, and ultimately, better outcomes for residents.
