Wine of the Weekend

Irony North Coast Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

People are finding ways to celebrate wine more and more. National Wine Day passed this week, but don’t worry if you missed it. You may have celebrated National Drink Wine Day back in February, or maybe you celebrated National Chardonnay Day earlier this month. We like to celebrate wine (responsibly) all the time, and this week’s wine, Irony North Coast Cabernet Sauvignon, is definitely worth celebrating without waiting for Cabernet day to come around.

Tasting Notes: Irony Cabernet opens with black cherry and cocoa notes, followed by ripe, dark fruit, elegantly delivered over a wave of soft tannins and toasty oak. Your taste buds will be the ones celebrating.

Enjoy With: Grilled red meats and portobello mushrooms, rich stews, pizza with meaty toppings, and strong, aged cheeses.

Style: A dry, full-bodied red wine.

Terroir / Region: The North Coast region of California ranges from San Francisco Bay up to northern Mendocino, allowing wineries to select ‘North Coast’ grapes from different regions with different attributes. The skill required in making this wine lies in blending the best of the region. Fruit from Napa, Mendocino and Red Hills Lake all contribute to the balanced structure of Irony Cabernet.

Producer: Three generations of the Indelicato family have steered the winery to the position it holds today, beginning with Gaspare Indelicato. An emigrant from Sicily, Gaspare planted the first Delicato vineyard in 1924 in Manteca, California, an area that reminded him of his homeland. With his three sons, he went on to establish a winery, building a solid reputation for making quality wines.

Availability: Irony Cabernet Sauvignon will be available in the Vintages section of your local LCBO and for online ordering on Saturday May 29, but some stores may already have it on the shelf. Enjoy this weekend’s celebration!
