Come Clean | Week of Action

Header

12pm - 3pm |14/03/12
Alexandra Square

Join LUSU as we campaign for:
- Government to come clean on the privatisation of Higher Education
- Lancaster Uni to come clean on hidden course costs
- A University experience worth the money
NUS has called a ‘Come Clean’ week of action in Students Unions all over the UK as student funding and finances are facing crisis.
As fees rise, focus has been taken away from bursaries, whilst continuing extra course costs are forcing more money out of students, leaving too many out of pocket to afford education.
At the same time the Government has quietly dropped the Higher Education Bill. This allows no debate on our education until the next General Election in 2015. Until then, the Government could force plans to put public funding into unregulated private universities through the back door with no debate or vote.
This will have a negative impact on both current and future students at Lancaster. We are standing up and saying NO.

Notice to Cyclists

Cyclists are asked to be vigilant following a spate of cycle related thefts across the campus. University Security and Lancashire Constabulary are working together to identify the offenders. If you see anything suspicious please inform Security on X94541. Lancashire Constabulary has issued the following advice to cyclists: A heavy duty D-Lock is the recommended lock for securing a bicycle. Thieves are generally targeting bicycles secured only with a cheaper curly chain lock.
The University also encourages all cyclists to wear helmets. Helmets and D-locks are available from GreenLancaster.

A new cycle security initiative was launched last year by Lancashire Constabulary known as Operation Chainguard. Please register for the scheme for enhanced bicycle security.
