About 2008
2008 was one of WARC's most successful years on the water since the club last won the coveted Champion Club in 1959. Although the Rowing WA State Championships still have another half-day of racing to go, WARC has already picked up a record-breaking 12 state championships, up from 10 last year and barely a handful each year before that.
We are up to receive the B, C, D and E pennants as well as sitting second on the overall pennant table.
Apart from States, what else happened?
WARC purchased three single sculls, two 4s and an 8 this year, with two pairs and another scull due to arrive in January. It was an an almost unprecedented increase to the club's fleet.
WARC also purchased a small sculls trailer, increased membership, built a new website, designed a more professional style of newsletter, built on the success of the River Room and employed coaching staff.
WARC athletes competed earlier in the year at a national level, and four athletes (including a coxswain) were named in the WA youth team.

(oh, one other thing: Apologies for late invite. With State Champs rescheduled to the morning of the annual dinner... we're flat out!)

And that's it... for now
The WARC Annual General Meeting will be held on Thursday, October 16 from 6.30pm in the River Room. This will give members the opportunity to reflect on the year as an organisation, nominate for committee positions. Over summer, WARC will be running Learn to Row programs, the successul Junior rowing program will continue, and athletes who have been rowing competitively will continue to hone their skills in preparation for 2009.
As for next year...
Well, the possibilities are endless.
Kind regards,
Peta Rule
