Good morning.  Every day, I bring my notebook to our stand-up meeting.  I flip to my to-do list, and as the discussion unfolds, I add items to my seemingly never-ending list of follow-up items.

A few months ago, I began utilizing ChatGPT to assist me in prioritizing these items.  Today, I'll share the prompt I created to help me organize my to-do list.

Utilize this prompt to increase your efficiency and effectiveness.  Once comfortable with it, encourage your teams to do the same.

Elevate your Prioritization

Utilize this prompt by inserting your to-do list at the bottom, with any applicable context, and paste it into ChatGPT.  The Chat will prioritize your list and ask insightful questions to refine and group your priorities.

Prompt:

"As a senior living and skilled nursing leader, I need your expertise to prioritize my to-do list effectively.  We aim to maximize returns on investment (ROI) in three critical areas: resident and family satisfaction, employee engagement and retention, and financial stability/health.  [OR INSERT YOUR CRITICAL AREAS HERE IF DIFFERENT THAN THESE THREE]

Imagine I've shared a list of priorities with you, and your role is to guide me through the prioritization process using the Eisenhower matrix.  Your questions should help me categorize these priorities into four distinct quadrants.  If my answers suggest that a priority could be better placed in a different quadrant, avoid assumptions but use phrases like 'it sounds like...' and 'it seems like...' to encourage me to narrow the list independently.  After each interaction, please provide an updated list of the four categories as they stand through our prioritization exercise.

Here's my list of priorities:
