The Homeowner Edition
By Jan Miyagishima, Mortgage Director

Here in Alaska we know how to prepare for the long winter. We put away our fishing poles and put on our studded tires. We chop an extra cord of wood and dig out the down jackets. As the days get shorter and the temperatures drop, we check in on our neighbors — and then we look for a project.

Some of you are artisans and put your hands to work. Many are parents balancing homework, sport practices, and getting dinner on the table. A few might try a hand at "fix it" projects around the house. Here at AHFC we are tackling our own list of projects, and high on that list are the needs of our current and future homeowners.

You have likely heard about — or benefited from —  Alaska Housing Rent Relief. While we applaud the great success of this program, we know that some homeowners are still struggling. If you have been waiting for notification of when you can apply for assistance, it's coming. Our plan is with the U.S. Treasury for approval. You can read about it here. Rest assured that we'll tackle this as we did rent relief — with dedication, compassion, and efficiency.

For those of you who are not yet homeowners but are ready to make the move, there are incredible resources available to you. Start by taking a free homebuyer course and give one of our featured lenders a call. They each have a history of supporting Alaska homebuyers with AHFC loans and are eager to show you the ropes.

These programs are just the tip of the iceberg of what you'll find through AHFC. They are examples of moving forward with positivity and hope. I know it's been another challenging year and we applaud you for your perseverance. We are in the business of helping Alaskans stay housed. We've been doing it for the past 50 years — and we’re ready for the next 50.

Energy Savings

Did you know?

Federally funded Weatherization Assistance was born out of the national oil crisis that occurred in the early 1970s. Since then, the State of Alaska has invested more than $611 million in residential energy efficiency, resulting in a 30% reduction in consumption.
