Measure B Newsletter

This newsletter is to help inform our Marin Community College District community of the District’s progress on the implementation of the voter‐approved Measure B bond. The improvements made possible by this bond allow us to continue our commitment to educational excellence in providing equitable opportunities and fostering success for all members of our diverse community.

 

Citizens' Bond Oversight Committee Meeting

The Citizens' Bond Oversight Committee (CBOC) met on September 18, 2019, and received a tour of the Indian Valley campus.

The CBOC is responsible for reviewing Measure B expenditures and ensuring that bond proceeds are only used for the purposes set forth in Measure B, with quarterly meetings open to the public.

Projects in Design:

 

Admin Cluster - Buildings 9 and 12 Renovation | Indian Valley Campus

Project Summary: Renovation of building 9 will create office spaces and conference areas while building 12 renovation will create café and student spaces.

Status:

  • Occupants have vacated building 12, building 9 will vacate this fall
  • Abatement work for building 12 has started, building 9 will start after move
  • Anticipated start of construction in 2020
 

New Learning Resources Center Building | Kentfield Campus

Project Summary: Demolition of existing and construction of new Learning Resource Center building.

Status:

  • Short-listed architect firms interviews June 19, 2019
  • Selected architect firm announced at Board of Trustee meeting August 20, 2019
  • Anticipated DSA submittal late 2020
 

Swing Space: Temporary Offices and Classrooms | Kentfield Campus

Project Summary: Relocation of portable classrooms.

Status:

  • DSA submittal June 3, 2019
  • First three classroom buildings relocated from Indian Valley to Kentfield July 2, 2019
  • Furniture delivery completed August 9, 2019
  • Utility connections complete August 12, 2019
 

Projects currently under construction:

 

Jonas Center and Building 18 | Indian Valley Campus

Project Summary: Event facility to seat 300 people, includes a catering kitchen, a prep kitchen, stage and meeting rooms.

Status:

  • Pour of concrete columns and slabs complete in September
  • Steel frame of the new building and glue lams to be completed in October
  • Truss installation anticipated to begin in November
 

Pomo Cluster - Phase 2 | Indian Valley Campus

Project Summary: This project involves interior renovations in buildings 3, 5, 6, and 7.

Status:

  • Furniture installation complete
  • Final punch list ongoing

  • Exterior stair and ramp construction to be completed in October

 

Admin Cluster - Buildings 9 and 12 Window Replacement | Indian Valley Campus

Project Summary: This project involves the replacement of existing windows in buildings 9 and 12.

Status:

  • Notice to proceed issued in April 2019

  • Procurement of windows delayed by one month

  • Final punch list pending completion of abatement

 

New Miwok Center - Aquatic & Fitness Center | Indian Valley Campus

Project Summary: Construction of a multi-purpose aquatic fitness facility, with flexible work-out spaces, dance studio, classroom, locker rooms, and offices.

Status:

  • Footing and slab preparation ongoing in September
  • Building slab pour September 2019
  • Building concrete masonry walls starts in October 2019
 

Maintenance & Operations Building and District Warehouse | Kentfield Campus

Project Summary: District Warehouse and Facilities Administration Building.

Status:

  • Building pad pour completed
  • First building delivery September 27, 2019
  • Second building delivery October 10, 2019

 

 

Projects in Closeout/Complete:

 

Admin Cluster: Buildings 8, 9, 10 and 12 Roof Replacement | Indian Valley Campus

Project Summary: New roofs for buildings 8, 9, 10, and 12.

Status:

  • Flat roof installation complete
  • Shingle installation complete
  • Metal flashing installation complete
  • Final punch walk pending

 

 

Performing Arts - Ticket Booth Improvements | Kentfield Campus

Project Summary: Improvements to accessibility and HVAC.

Status:

  • Notice of Completion will be submitted at the October 2019 Board of Trustees meeting
 

Organic Farm/Garden Enhancements | Indian Valley Campus

Project Summary: New prefabricated, pre-DSA approved building for classroom and demonstrations for organic farm & associated programs.

Status:

  • Compiling close out documents
  • Punchlist nearly complete
  • Removal of old greenhouse May 2019
 

Building 27 (Dental, EMT, Court Reporting, Library) - Paint Exterior | Indian Valley Campus

Project Summary: Paint the exterior of Building 27.

Status:

  • Painting complete May 2019
  • Punchlist resolution ongoing
 

Athletic Synthetic Turf Fields and Restroom/Storage Facilities - Phase 2 Baseball Field | Kentfield Campus

Project Summary: This project replaces the existing natural grass baseball field with a synthetic turf, as well as construction of a scoreboard and perimeter fencing.

Status:

  • School use resumed March 2019
  • Paving at parking and main entry completed
  • Punch list resolution ongoing
