Dear Subscriber

Last week I attended the National Visual Arts Educators Conference - three days in the artworld of the National Gallery of Australia and the National Portrait Gallery. I was inspired by many artists and educators I met who are also passionate about expanding the art horizons of their students - too often at the sacrifice of their own art practice.

Of course while there, I viewed the wonderful Renaissance exhibition at the NGA . While the paintings were extraordinary, like most of the major NGA exhibitions, there's a fun educational room for children aged 3–12. Here they explore the illusion of one-point perspective, construct and place buildings in a Renaissance landscape and draw themselves in the portrait styles of the period. It's a marvellous way to interpret art for children.

If you've also been impressed by this exhibition, you might like to join Matilda Michell's new course Painting after the Masters, and learn how to produce your own Renaissance style paintings.

Or if you've seen the Picasso exhibition at the AGNSW, then try Learning from Picasso - a fun, practical course for all ages and levels of artists and a great way for families to explore and create art together.

So we are all excited to be back at Art Est. for our fifth year of art making and exhibiting. Hope you'll be joining us for another fabulous year of art.

Kind regards

Jennifer McNamara, Director

Plus One Exhibition

During Art Month Sydney 2012 Art Est. Gallery will feature Plus One.

Curator Lisa Woolfe has invited 12 unrepresented artists whose work she admires to exhibit their work here at Art Est. Gallery during Art Month Sydney. The catch: she asked each of the 12 to invite an artist whose work they admire to exhibit along with them.  It turns out the show could have been called "Six degrees of separation" as many of the artists know each other or know of each other having crossed paths at various art schools, through shared studio spaces, or just out and about in Sydney’s tight knit art scene.

This show will feature the work of over 20 artists and include works on paper, paintings, photography, textiles, sculpture and installations.

Click here for more information on this exciting exhibition.

1-31 March 2012

Join us to meet the artists at the opening night                                  Thursday 15 March 6-8pm
