Hello everyone, The State Government this month started works on the $2.6billion Perth Waterfront project. Publicly available information suggests the vast majority of this project lies east of the WA Rowing Club and early inquiries suggest it is unlikely this development will prevent our daily operations. However, there are some aspects to this development that are not clear, and as a result the WA Rowing Club's management committee is scheduled to meet with a representative from the body overseeing the development on Tuesday, May 22. A representative from the Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority will give the committee a briefing on the project, and the opportunity will arise to ask questions and seek clarification. The Committee – and thus WARC - at this stage does not have a formal position on the Perth Waterfront development. Our primary goal for this meeting is to ensure our ongoing operations throughout construction, including operation of the function room, rowing training and attending regattas. 4am to 8am parking, trailer access and water quality are the three key issues we are intending to discuss at this stage, pending outcomes from the presentation. If you would like to discuss this with a committee member and raise any specific concerns, the following options are available: Peta Rule will be at WARC from 8.30am to 10am on Saturday morning to field questions and discuss the development. For those travelling to the Bunbury Regatta, Michael Jones will be there on the day and is happy to discuss the matter. If these times are not suitable, please email Peta on petabreerule@gmail.com or call on 0428 923 661. Should you be interested in this development, there is a lot of information available here, which might help explain the project: http://www.mra.wa.gov.au/Projects/Perth-Waterfront/About-the-Project/ FOR THOSE WHO DO NOT SUPPORT THE PROJECT: As the Committee is yet to receive a briefing and has not yet comprehensively canvassed the membership, should you wish to lodge an objection regarding the Perth Waterfront Project, you are welcome to use your membership of WARC as context for your objection, but would ask that you do not present a case as speaking on behalf of the members of WARC. The Perth Waterfront Development is controversial and can foster strong emotions. The Committees position at this stage is to continue fact-finding, with the primary aim of being ongoing, uninterrupted operations of Western Australia's longest-established rowing club.
