Universal Children's Day

Every Child Matters, Everywhere in the World

"All children have the right to be protected from all forms of physical and mental violence, injury or abuse, neglect or negligent treatment, maltreatment or exploitation, including sexual abuse" - UNCRC 1989.

20 November is Universal Children's Day. Below are some resources teachers can use and videos they can show their students to celebrate and create awareness of this day.

Poster on the Rights of the Child in Child-friendly language

UNICEF has produced a poster with the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child: In Child Friendly Language. The poster can be accessed here

The British Council has asked 162 children in 8 different countries to the question "What do children need to grow and be happy?"

Answers range from chocolate to peace on earth, having a computer to the end of child labour. Watch their answers and drawings by clicking below.

UNICEF has produced a video made for children, by children to inspire action on World Children's Day. Using P!nk's popular track "What about us" children show us their world.

Understanding Child Protection free online course
 

Following the lecture on the British Council's Child Protection policy at our British Council Cyprus conference on 9 November, you can take the free online course from our Teaching English website.
