This software protocol enables cities and municipalities to choose future-proof, interoperable and open solutions for Smart Street Lighting and other Smart City Applications from various vendors. The video above shows how the TALQ Smart City Protocol is implemented by both software and hardware developers to enable multi-vendor solutions managing Smart City systems such as Smart Outdoor Lighting, Waste Management, Traffic Management, etc. How You Can Boost Acceleration with OpenCAPI, Today!By Myron Slota, President, OpenCAPI Consortium, and, Scott Graham, Chairperson, OpenCAPI Consortium The challenges in silicon scaling and the demands of today’s data-intensive Artificial Intelligence (AI), High Performance Computing (HPC), and analytics workloads are forcing rapid growth in deployment of accelerated computing in our industry. In addition, the next several years will see a new wave of disruptive memory technologies that will transform the economics of large memory deployments in support of these applications. But this new wave of accelerators and disruptive technologies won’t add much value if the platform they’re running on wasn’t designed to unleash their potential. OpenCAPI was developed to fuel this heterogeneous computing revolution by unleashing the potential of these new technologies! New trends are emerging as accelerators become more commonplace and workloads are being re-written or developed from scratch with acceleration in mind. Accelerators need improved access to the capacity and low cost per Gigabyte of system memory without the inefficiency of the IO subsystem; OpenCAPI achieves this by providing very high bandwidth with coherency. The portion of the application running on the accelerator often requires fine-grained interaction with the portion of the application running on the CPU. MIPI Alliance Opens Access to its MIPI I3C Sensor Interface SpecificationThe MIPI® Alliance, an international organization that develops interface specifications for mobile and mobile-influenced industries, recently announced it is opening access to its sensor interface specification, MIPI I3C.Starting today, all companies, including those not currently members of MIPI Alliance, may access the MIPI I3C v1.0 specification so they may evaluate the incorporation of the specification into their sensor integration plans and design applications. “MIPI I3C provides a welcome update to the I2C technology that has been widely adopted over the past 35 years. Extending access provides an opportunity to spur innovation and help other industries beyond mobile," said Joel Huloux, chairman of MIPI Alliance. "It helps MIPI members as well, because it supports greater adoption and interoperability, strengthens the ecosystem and provides for a richer development environment.” Jan Denneman Retires as Zhaga General Assembly ChairAfter six years as Chair of the General Assembly of Zhaga, well respected Jan Denneman, has stepped down from the post. As a professional figurehead in the lighting industry, Jan has been instrumental in discussing the ‘today and tomorrow’ of lighting, in his role as both President of Global Lighting Association and LightingEurope, as well as Chair of the General Assembly of Zhaga. Jan was one of the people to initiate founding Zhaga in 2010, because the introduction of LED lighting required new ways of creating standards. Jan has been a fountain of knowledge, offering a credible insight into the industry’s core trends, engines for future growth and the challenges that lie ahead for the lighting industry. Zhaga member companies have been privileged to use Jan’s extensive knowledge of the industry, combined with market feedback, and our strategy masterplan to steer the direction of the New Zhaga. First DALI-2 devices certified by DiiAThe DALI-2 certification program is now fully underway with the certification of the first DALI-2 devices from several leading lighting manufacturers. DALI-2 certification is run by the Digital Illumination Interface Alliance (DiiA), an open consortium of lighting companies that promotes the global adoption of digital lighting-control systems using DALI technology. The first certified DALI-2 products, including LED drivers from Helvar, OSRAM, Philips Lighting and Tridonic, are already listed in the Product Database on the DiiA website. Only certified products can carry the DALI-2 logo, which signifies interoperability and enhanced functionality. ISTO Welcomes New Staff with Expertise in Blockchain and Open SourceISTO recently added two new resources, Maria Palombini and Joshua Gay, with vast expertise in blockchain and open source technologies respectively. Maria joined with a directive to build communities and advance initiatives to develop standards for enterprise adoption of emerging technologies. Her work includes building communities of technologists, industry executives, academic researchers and industry stakeholders to educate on the benefits and challenges of technologies such as blockchain/distributed ledger technologies, while building consensus on recommendations for frameworks on technical standards and recommended guidelines for protocol and policies to enhance the outcomes of technology implementation. Her primary areas of focus for blockchain adoption include the pharma, health, supply chain, energy and agriculture sectors. In parallel to her work in blockchain standards, she is the project lead for a new initiative, Digital Inclusion through Trust and Agency, a critical program focused on providing a solution and guidelines that gives the right to all members of the global community to be digitally included with equal right to manage and protect their digital citizenship and to be forgotten online and offline, and restore dignity to digital transactions between the individual and the entity. Josh has 10+ years experience organizing open source software communities online and through conferences, workshops, and events, along with experience engaging the public, government, and press on matters of technology, policy, and law; experience managing open source communications platforms, including: CMS/CRM systems, wikis, blogs, bug trackers, and mailing lists, as well as 15+ years experience using GNU/Linux. Most recently he was the Communications Director for the Tor Project, and before that he had various management roles (including Licensing Manager) at the Free Software Foundation. He has also been a contractor for the Mozilla Foundation. If your member program or alliance is thinking of exploring these new technologies, Maria and Josh can be valuable assets to your initiative. For the 15th consecutive year, all entities received an unmodified or “clean” opinion. An unmodified opinion states that the financial statements present fairly, in all material respects, the financial position, results of operations, and cash flows of the entity in conformity with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). The 2016 Financial Statements were audited by the Audit firm of WithumSmith+Brown. Recent ISTO Program NewsDigital Illumination Interface Alliance
