Kaupapa Māori approaches to mental well-being

This Mental Health Awareness Week, we dug into our archives to showcase a very popular webinar from 2020 on Mahi a Atua - a Māori approach to well-being which draws on the stories, narratives and healing practices of te ao Māori.

Watch the recording here.

In addition, check out this report from 2018 on Kimihia te Hauora Hinengaro: Pathways to Mental Health.  This report used a kaupapa Māori approach to understand how the unique and diverse cultural experiences of urban Māori might inform the design of more responsive mental health treatment and care services in West Auckland.

Because every week is te wiki o te reo

Community Research promotes te reo Māori, an official language of New Zealand, in everything we do.  We have made a commitment to actively honour Te Tiriti (The Treaty of Waitangi) and to promote equity and inclusion for all.

For those who need tautoko - support on their te reo journey, here are some awesome resources gathered by The Spinoff to help you.

Kia kaha te reo Māori!

Wāhi Kōrero - Sharing personal stories to improve health care

Wāhi Kōrero is exploring what gets left unsaid between parents and their children’s Well Child Nurse. Hearing these stories will help them understand health experiences, and design solutions to address the difficulties people face when accessing health services.

If you’re a parent of young children, they’d love you to share your story here.
