Typed for mac

Hey there,

Last week we looked at the initial sketches for the Typed icon, and this week we're looking at the process we went through to get to the final icon.

While a lot of other app icons are aiming for a flatter, more simplistic look, we felt that style of icon wasn't a great fit for Typed. Flat icons often lack character and personality. We wanted something warm and rich that was memorable and had plenty of character.

In the end we settled on the rake and sand garden concept. It alludes to the fact that it's a writing app, from the T shaped rake to the lines in the sand. It's also fun and playful - with the sand raking giving a nod to the zen aspect we're aiming for with Typed.

Every icon goes through a process, it starts with some ideas and a sketch. If we think there's a winning concept there it then gets rendered up as a first draft. It often takes many revisions to get to the final version of the icon. The threes icons above outline some of the key points in the design process.

And finally, here's the Typed for Mac icon. I hope you love it as much as we do.

I hope you're enjoying these behind-the-curtain peeks at what it takes to bring an app like Typed to market. Next week we'll take a look at the thought process behind the features and UI in Typed. See you then!
