Building services with CIBSE

We worked with CIBSE to explore minimising the use of materials and resources, cutting waste and encouraging recycling.

Find out more about our work in the March CIBSE journal and watch out for TM56: Resource Efficiency of Building Services published in the spring.

Pioneering business models for a circular economy

Our REBus project is looking for businesses interested in exploring the commercial opportunities offered by more resource efficient, circular economy, business models.

The project offers fully funded expert support to help you develop a detailed business case and pilot your resource efficient concept.  Amongst other models the team are exploring asset management, hire and leasing and providing products as services. Meet the team at Resource.

The Water Label

Major DIY retailers, builders’ merchants and manufacturers of bathroom fittings have committed to introduce water efficiency labelling for bathroom fittings, using The Water Label.

This significant step forward will help inform customer choice and increase sales of water efficient fittings. The new labelling will start to appear in summer 2014.

Water Management Planning

Visit the GCB website for new guidance on improving the efficiency of water use on construction sites through better planning and management of water.

The online guide includes a Water Management Plan template which includes provides practical examples and links to other resources.

New material action plans

The new Resource Efficiency Action Plan for Ready-Mix Concrete addresses the impact areas of waste, water, carbon (energy usage and emissions), materials (primary and secondary) and biodiversity.

We’ve also worked with Composites UK to develop a REAP for the composite sector. The action plan will be taken forward by the newly formed Composites Leadership Forum.

Benchmarking

We’ve developed a set of resource efficiency benchmarks covering a range of building and infrastructure project types, new build and refurbishment.

Use the benchmarks to assess your current performance and to help define your targets.

Carbon calculator for C&D waste

Developed with the UKCG our tool calculates the carbon impact of construction and demolition waste for different waste management routes.

The calculator can be used to show the carbon savings associated with prevention, re-use and recycling of waste material.
