Climate Leadership Team Recommendations Report

BC Mayors Endorse Climate Leadership Team Recommendations

BC Climate Leadership Team, appointed by the province, has put forward a set of 32 recommendations for policies necessary to achieve government’s climate goal by 2050, while fostering strong economy. The BC Mayors Climate Leadership Council (BCMCLC) expressed enthusiasm about Climate Leadership Team’s recommendations. New round of public consultations will start in January 2016. Stay tuned!

CARIP Public Report 2014 Summary

BC Municipalities Committed to Climate Action: 2014 CARIP Report

The 2014 CARIP summary report shows continued commitment from local governments towards reducing GHG emissions; 40 Local Governments achieved carbon neutral status, 24% reported undertaking energy generation projects, and over 82% reported support for alternative modes of travel (cycling, walking, transit, electric vehicles). 2015 CARIP Reporting Process

CARIP Reporting Gets Streamlined

A new and improved process for 2015 reporting is now in place. The process has been streamlined into a single online survey–the 2015 CARIP Climate Action/Carbon Neutral Progress Survey with a single submission date–June 1 2016. The CARIP survey link for the 2015 reporting year will be emailed to all local government financial administrators.

Saanich Benefits from Fuel Efficient Municipal Fleet

Saanich’s Fleet Department achieves 14% reduction in GHG emissions through participating in the E3 Fleet Program and initiating a variety of fleet management strategies. The district added electric vehicles and incorporated new technologies to increase its fleet fuel efficiency. Staff engagement and fuel data management and tracking system were essential to the program’s success. Saanich received several awards in recognition of its efforts.

Community Energy Leadership Project Funding

Funding Opportunity for Community Energy Projects

The Community Energy Leadership Program (CELP) is inviting all local governments and First Nations to apply for funding for community energy projects undertaken in 2016/2017. A total of $500,000 is available to fund projects that support energy efficiency and renewable energy in BC communities. Applications are due on December 15, 2015.
