This week’s wine is a great one, so you may want to use it as a base for your Saturday or Sunday meal planning. Most of the time, we plan out dinner and then try to find a wine to fit the dish. This weekend, try going the other way: start with a bottle of Palacio de Primavera Reserva 2015 from Rioja, Spain, and go from there. Try some tapas-style starters, grill some Spanish specialties or try a dish featuring saffron like a classic paella. Finish with a little Spanish cheese, then turn up the flamenco and dance off dinner!

Style: A dry, smooth, full-bodied red wine.
Terroir / Region: Spain takes its wine aging very seriously: it’s the law after all. Palacio de Primavera is a ‘Reserva’ wine meaning it must (by law) be aged for at least 3 years before it can be sold, with at least one of those years spent in oak barrels. This aging helps soften the tannins, while integrating oak spices and mellowing the wine. These requirements make Reserva wines ready to be enjoyed as soon as you pick one up!
Producer: Burgo Viejo began when six farming families combined efforts to achieve their dream of opening a winery. These families owned their own vineyards and were able to focus on growing the best grapes possible to create their wines.
