The European lighthouse cities Vienna, Munich and Lyon as well as the follower cities Santiago de Compostela, Sofia and Venice come together in order to improve the quality of life of their citizens. Below you will find updates on the development of co-created and replicable Smart City solutions in 5 concrete areas– citizen engagement, district heating & renewable energy, holistic refurbishment, smart data and e-mobility. Road to a Replication Strategy in the Follower CitiesOn 5 and 6 June, the city of Santiago de Compostela organised the first Intensive Lab Session, with several goals for the workshop, such bringing stakeholders together in an open setting and designing local implementation road maps. Smarter Together Vienna Hosts Third Peer-to-Peer WorkshopFrom 9 to 11 July, Smarter Together organised its third Peer-to-Peer workshop in Lighthouse city Vienna. The numerous workshops achieved a high degree of technical detail across a variety of topics most relevant to the innovation being implemented across Smarter Together Lighthouse and Follower cities. Smarter Together Hosts an Additional Three WebinarsSmarter Together has hosted a series of webinars this year, ranging from topics on smart lamp posts and e-government in Munich and private housing retrofit, to citizen engagement with the Vienna SIMmobil. From Smarter Together Munich Second Open Call for Innovation - Munich Lamp PostsThe City of Munich has launched a second innovation competition within the context of Smarter Together. The local government is looking for sensor-based solutions for three specific topics: traffic data capture, parking management and security, and gamification. From Smarter Together Lyon European Commissioner of Economic Affairs visits LyonPierre Moscovici, the European Commissioner of Economic Affairs, recently visited Lyon-Confluence along with David Kimelfed, the president of the Greater Lyon, and Georges Képénékian, the mayor of Lyon. From Smarter Together Vienna Vienna eDays 2018: Giving eMobility More VisibilityOn 29 and 30 June 2018, the eDays 2018 in Vienna gave a clear statement for more visibility and public support to e-mobility. Upcoming Events 25-27 September - Stavanger, Norway Nordic Edge Expo is a three day conference and exhibition covering Smart City topics like mobility, education, health, energy and renewables, governance, infrastructure, architecture, media, art, and safety. The conference will also include a half-day workshop on the topic of citizen engagement in European Lighthouse projects. 5 October - Brussels, Belgium The Horizon Energy info day will present the upcoming funding opportunities offered by the EU's Horizon 2020 Programme to projects focusing on smart energy systems and smart cities and communities concepts. European Week of Regions and Cities 8-11 October - Brussels, Belgium The European Week of Regions and Cities is an annual four-day event during which cities and regions showcase their capacity to create growth and jobs, implement European Union cohesion policy, and prove the importance of the local and regional level for good European governance.
