Wine of the Weekend

Joseph Cattin Grand Cru Hatschbourg Pinot Gris 2016

Thanksgiving weekend is upon us, along with all the family, friends, and food that comes with it. This is the perfect time to break out the good stuff, so we have upped our ante and selected a Grand Cru wine at a steal of a price! The Cattin Grand Cru Hatschbourg Pinot Gris 2016 is an impressive wine from one of the great vineyards of France, sure to wow the in-laws, and like most wines from Alsace, it will be amazing with your festive feast!

Tasting Notes: The Cattin Grand Cru Hatschbourg Pinot Gris boasts honeyed citrus, pear, and apricot, along with a smoky mineral note and lively acidity to balance the off-dry nature of the wine. Or you can just call it delicious!

Enjoy With: Roasted white meats (here turkey turkey turkey), roast duck or ham and even with desserts like rhubarb or apple pie.

Style: A full-bodied, fruity, off-dry white wine.

Terroir/Region: Alsace, France is centered around one stretch of hills which form a patchwork of some of the greatest vineyards in the world.  Alsace is known for having different grapes and styles of wine (dry or sweet) specifically linked to the soils, with the highest expression of these matches being Grand Cru wines, the best of the best!

Producer: We have mentioned the Grand Cru wines of the Cattin family previously, and now we get to highlight the real thing. The Hatschbourg Grand Cru vineyard has been noted for its quality since the middle ages, and the Cattin family has harnessed its power into bottlings of Riesling, Gewurztraminer, and Pinot Gris (this week’s wine). Collect them all!

Availability: The Cattin Grand Cru Hatschbourg Pinot Gris 2016 can be found in the Vintages section of your local LCBO and will available for online ordering on October 12th, but some stores may already have it on the shelf.
