Introduction to Tough Mudder 2012

Welcome to yet another late addition of the Pound 4 Pound Personal Training newsletter.

Firstly I would like to welcome all our new clients/friends that have started in the gym since the last newsletter (and there are a lot of you). Welcome to the Pound 4 Pound family, I look forward to continued health and fitness success with you all!

Now as most in the gym would know, Pound 4 Pound has entered a team in the crazy event called Tough Mudder which will be held this Saturday 31st March. All team members have been training hard to ensure that we are ready for this event. For those that don't know much about this event I have chosen to write a brief article on the history of the event to try and give everyone an understanding of how this event has come about (I hope you enjoy the read).

Before we move onto that I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Pound 4 Pound team for putting their hand up for this challenge and I also want to wish them and our competitors luck! Hopefully it is an amazing experience that we will be talking about for a long time to come.

THE HISTORY OF TOUGH MUDDER!

The event was created by Will Dean while studying at Harvard business school. His idea was a finalist in the school's annual business plan contest. Due to having a limited marketing budget he used Facebook to launch the first ever Tough Mudder event on the 2nd of May 2010 at Bear Creek Resort in Allentown PA. Since then the number of Tough Mudder events has grown with 14 events held in 2011 and 28 events scheduled for 2012, including Australia's first ever Tough Mudder to be held in Melbourne (Phillip Island) on the 31st March and 1st April.

The Tough Mudder event was created to test toughness, strength, stamina and mental grit all in one place at one time!

And looking at the course design for Melbourne (Phillip Island) all the above things will be tested! It's a 20km course with 20 obstacles to combat along the way including walls, ropes, water, electricity (not joking!) and mud, mud and more MUD!!!! And much more that we just don't want to know about.

Success Story - Ray Harrop

Tell us about yourself - My name is Ray Harrop. I moved to Wodonga 12 years ago after a 31 year career with Telstra. I'm married to Diane & interested in Health & Travel.

What motivated you to start training at Pound 4 Pound PT? I wanted something different to the normal gym thing. Boxing appealed to me.

How long have you been training at Pound 4 Pound PT? 2 years, I think.

What results have you achieved since you started training at Pound 4 Pound PT? I'm a lot leaner and a lot fitter

Why do you think you have been so successful with achieving your results? It's like everything we do in our lives, if you stick with it, it will happen.

What has been your favourite exercise that has helped you achieve your results? Not push ups, that's for sure! I think the boxing got me motivated the most. Medball is good too.

What do you like most about Pound 4 Pound PT? I like the Personal Training with Steve. We always have a laugh and it helps me get through the hard work.

How do you feel, after achieving such good results? I feel great and it's given me the incentive to get even fitter.

What would you say to someone that may help them acheive similar results? Don't give up! Losing weight & getting fit takes time. Most f all, enjoy it!

What are your fitness goals? At age 61, I'll be happy if I can maintain where I am now.

A Note from Steve

Ray is a perfect example of how age is just a number. The more challenging the workout the more enthusiastic he is to do it!

Ray is not fit for his age, he is fit for ANY AGE!!!!!

Ray often finishes workouts what many people his junior would not even attempt. Ray is an ambassador for healthy living, he eats well, exercises on a regular basis and leaves no stone unturned when it comes to his health & fitness.

You are an inspiration to us all Ray, keep up the good work mate!
