This past week, I heard a community leader say to her team leaders, "Getting out of the building with your team is kinda like deciding to have kids.  There's always a reason to hold off, but you will never regret the decision to do it."

It's so true.  There is always a valid reason to postpone that team happy hour or strategy session with your Director of Nursing.  But at what cost?

Now is the time to open your calendar and block off some time this week to get out of the building with some of your team.  It can be for drinks, to go for a hike, or whatever else you decide.

You can utilize the time to strategize about work challenges or to reconnect as a team and deepen relationships.

It's essential, and all the valid reasons why you should wait will still be good reasons next week and the week after.

Commit to this week and make it happen.  You'll be glad you did.

Each week I try to accomplish a single task at home or at work that will provide exponential efficiency in the future.  Last week, I bought and labeled three mail bins in my home office and labeled them new mail, bills that need to be paid, and paid bills.  I was wasting time every month digging through bills and trying to remember which ones I had already paid.  It took 5 minutes and will save me 30 minutes each month moving forward—exponential efficiency.

A few months ago, we became exponentially more efficient in our communities by installing the Accushield sign-in kiosks.  A decision that took minimal time and effort and continues to save my team members several hours each day.  Not to mention, I no longer am dedicating staffing to screening residents and visitors and have reallocated those resources to resident care—exponential efficiency.
