Dear WorldSkills Australia Supporter,
Earlier this month, WorldSkills Australia released the results of a National survey on the understanding and perceptions of Vocational Education and Training (VET). With one in four Australians not knowing what is meant by the term “vocational education and training”, the results suggest that more needs to be done to educate people with regard to VET and the contribution it makes to society and the Australian economy.

WorldSkills Australia invites applications to volunteer at the 2014 WorldSkills Australia National Competition. In this role, volunteers will be required to assist with all aspects of the event including setup and pack down. The National Competition will be held at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre between the 18th and 20th of September.
In order to be successful, applicants must meet all essential criteria and submit an online Expression of Interest by Monday the 25th of August, 2014.

Polytechnic West, one of Western Australia’s leading education & training providers, and the state’s largest apprenticeship training provider, has a rich history of working with WorldSkills Australia.
Since 2011, 95 Polytechnic West students have been awarded medals at regional WorldSkills competitions, 36 students have been selected on ‘Team WA’ for the National Competition and 2 students have represented Australia as part of the Team Australia Skillaroos.
In April 2013, Polytechnic West hosted the Global Skills Challenge, which saw competitors from a number of countries come to Perth to practice their skills prior to the international competition in Leipzig, Germany.
In addition to the 22 Polytechnic West students who are part of Team WA for this year’s National Competition, 20 Polytechnic West lecturers are involved as judges or convenors, and truck-loads of Polytechnic West equipment is being transported to the Perth Convention Centre for use in the competition.
