This weekend, put on your explorer’s hat and take a trip to a section in Vintages that you probably don’t visit very often to look for a wine that you wouldn’t expect to find there. Sound confusing? It’s not really. There is a Pinot Gris in the German section of Vintages that is well worth your time to hunt down. Share this ‘explorer’s selection’ with friends and tell them about your adventure!
Tasting Notes: This flavoursome Pinot Gris is reminiscent of Alsace or Oregon versions,with plenty of intensity and weight. You will find attractive aromas of apple-blossom, pear and citrus on the nose with hints of flint. Well-focused flavours of peach, granny smith apple and spice on the palate are perfectly balanced by lemony acidity ending on a long, mineral-infused finish.
Enjoy With: Chicken, fish, veal, or pork, most styles of cheese and salad.
Style: Full-bodied and rich white wine.
Terroir/Region: Pfalz is the second largest wine-growing region in Germany and benefits from near-perfect growing conditions for grapes with an average of 1,800 hours of sunshine per year. With warm, dry summers, Pfalz successfully grows a wide variety of top-quality white grapes including Pinot Blanc, Riesling and Pinot Gris.
