Dear Reader,

Happy New Year!

I’m Dr. Chris Palmer.

Thank you for signing up to the Brain Energy Newsletter. I’m so happy you’re here to learn more about Brain Energy. You may have subscribed to this newsletter because you or someone you know is experiencing mental distress or mental illness. That’s no surprise. Data suggest that around 50% of the U.S. population will meet the criteria for a mental disorder at some point in their lives. Unfortunately, treatments don’t always work.

Nearly all of us are looking for a better way to understand and treat mental disorders. We need better solutions. I don’t have all the answers, but what I’m offering is a new approach to understanding the root cause of mental illness: metabolism.

Understanding Brain Energy

What Is Metabolism?

Metabolism is how our bodies, including our brains, produce and use energy. It’s about so much more than simply burning calories. Metabolism influences every single aspect of the way our bodies function.

Many factors affect our metabolism, including diet, stress, sleep, hormone levels, exercise, light exposure, and inflammation. In a way, of course mental disorders are related to metabolism. In essence, everything is! This is why essentially all risk factors for mental and metabolic disorders are the same. In fact, metabolic abnormalities have consistently been found in people with mental disorders dating back to the 1940’s.

How is your metabolic health?

While you may already know the status of your mental health, your metabolic health is often much less obvious. Remember, they both revolve around metabolism and are highly interconnected.

Take The Mental and Metabolic Health Assessment to find out what areas of your life you can address today for long-term healing.
TAKE the ASSESSMENT
The Mental and Metabolic Health Assessment

Mental health and metabolic health are inseparable. All the questions you will answer in this survey represent symptoms or metrics that might be playing a role in BOTH your mental and metabolic health. They are all interconnected.

If you want to reduce or eliminate any specific symptoms, you may need to address the other areas of concern identified in this assessment. These may give you and your healthcare professional ideas about interventions that might prove useful in improving your symptoms and your overall health.

For example, if you’re having trouble losing weight and have areas of concern with mental symptoms, addressing these might be helpful in your weight loss journey. Alternatively, if you are struggling with mental symptoms and have areas of concern with metabolic symptoms (such as insulin resistance), addressing these might help to improve your mental symptoms.

I hope this assessment helps you optimize your health and live your best life possible.

Inspiring Brain Energy Stories
Matt Baszucki’s Success Story
After a bipolar episode at age 19, our son, Matt Baszucki, was seen by more than forty mental health practitioners and prescribed twenty-nine different medications. But it was not until he started on a ketogenic metabolic therapy under the guidance of Dr. Chris Palmer that he got his mind and his life back. Dr. Palmer’s metabolic approach has the potential to radically impact the world's mental health epidemic.

Not since the foundational theories of psychodynamics (Sigmund Freud) and behaviorism (John Watson) has a bold and potentially transformative new proposition emerged to explain the mounting epidemic of mental illness throughout the world and across the age-span. Dr. Palmer’s ground-breaking theory is that abnormalities in brain energy metabolism are likely root causes of psychiatric conditions and that dietary and metabolic approaches can be exploited to benefit patients, and even the general population at large.
