Freixenet Carta Nevada Brut Cava

Freixenet Carta Nevada Brut Cava

This is race weekend in Toronto and the lakeshore will be filled with not only the sound of the waves, but also the sounds of the Honda Indy. Humming engines and screeching tires will be followed by the flapping of checkered flags and the pop of bottles in the winner’s circle. Whether you are taking first place on the track, or just winning the race to the cottage or the backyard, Freixenet Carta Nevada Cava is the perfect sparkling wine with which to celebrate.

Tasting Note: Freixenet Carta Nevada, like all Cava, is a blend of the Macabeo, Xarel-lo and Parellada grapes which see a second fermentation in the bottle (just like Champagne). This creates a sparkling wine full of citrus and ripe apple, with balanced acidity and touch of white flowers on the finish.

Enjoy With: Tapas, green salads or Asian cuisine, or as an apéritif.  It is also ideal for mixing sparkling cocktails like Mimosas – combining equal parts Carta Nevada and orange juice.

Style: A light-bodied and fruity sparkling wine.

Terroir / Region: Cava country is a land of rolling hills and long sunny days, lying just southwest of Barcelona in Penedes, Spain. The area is protected from the cool ocean and north winds by the mountains surrounding it, leaving the heart of the region in an ideal, sun-drenched state where the grapes used in making Cava can slowly ripen to perfection.

Producer: In 1861, Francesc Sala Ferrés began making wine to export to America.  That original winery is still in use, although the company that grew around it makes it look like the gift shop. Franscec’s daughter Dolores married Pedro Ferrer in 1889 and the couple made the decision to make Cava instead of still wine. Little did they know that this decision would set their family’s path for generations, building Freixenet and making their Cava the most popular in the world!

Availability: Freixenet Carta Nevada Brut Cava is available year-round in the sparkling wine section of your local LCBO. Grab one for your winner’s circle, whether it’s at the cottage, the backyard, or celebrating the winner of the Indy!
