It's a spring tradition ... SHIELDS TOWNSHIP ANNUAL TOWN MEETING Tuesday, April 10, 2018 - 6:30 pm Annual Town Meetings are a unique feature of township government - it's the one time of year when the residents are in charge! Registered voters in the township get to cast a vote on agenda items, and there are two that will have a direct impact on Knollwood. 1. The Town Fund (the source of the township's main operating revenue) has a surplus of $150,000, and there is a proposal to transfer it to the Road and Bridge Fund (allowing it to be used to repair Knollwood roads). That's not enough to make a lot of headway, given the condition of many of our roads, but it still helps. We need YOUR vote to make it happen. 2. Shields Township Supervisor Terry Darraugh is proposing a referendum in Knollwood to contract with a single refuse carrier for garbage pickup. SWALCO (the Solid Waste Agency of Lake County) has facilitated this process in a number of townships and will be on hand to outline the rationale, how it would work, and the potential cost savings. There are strong opinions on both sides of this question, so come and make your voice heard. Bring your most recent bill from your garbage carrier for comparison. Hope to see you then!
