Support Homelessness Week
1–7 August 2021
Dear Foyer Friends and Family, It’s Homelessness Week and on any given night, approx. 27,000 young people are spending the night without the comfort or safety of their own home, according to the 2016 Census. Young people tell us that being homeless dramatically changes their lives by significantly impacting their mental health, forcing them to leave school, lose their job, exposing them to violence and they can find themselves in unsafe personal relationships.
Chrystal and Abbie believe "Creating more Foyers" will help end youth homelessness.
Of the 526 young people Foyers supported last year, around 52% of come from family violence or family breakdown. Foyers play a key role in providing a solution that not only provides a stable roof over their heads but keeps education and employment at the forefront of their journey, allowing them to build brighter futures and achieve their goals. We are so proud of the outcomes our Foyer young people achieve, stay tuned this week to hear more from them! If you’d like to know how you can help this week, contact us, donate or check out the Homelessness Australia website for more details. Katie Hooper

With all the instability and uncertainty around the current COVID climate, we wanted to update you on our plans for the Foyer Life Conference that was due to be held on 15–16 September 2021. The conference is officially postponed until May 2022. It will be the same conference we
have been planning, just in 2022 when hopefully the threat of lock downs has possibly (hopefully/miraculously) eased due to a larger proportion of us being vaccinated.
So we ask kindly for your patience, understanding and hope you can still support and attend the conference in 2022. Your ticket will automatically be transferred to secure your spot at the 2022 conference. There are a lots of conversations still to take place, so stay tuned for further communications as we work through rescheduling plans and finalise our new date.
Foyer Gold Coast receive the keys!Maria, Matt and Will were very excited to officially receive the keys to the newly built Foyer Gold Coast. Building commenced late 2019 and has 40 self-contained apartments with 24-hour on-site supervision and support for the young tenants. The team is ready to go and they welcome their first tenants around August 9th. The Foyer Family cannot wait to welcome the team and residents to our Foyer Community.
Meet our Young People - Zayne
Zayne is a Foyer Youth Ambassador who is incredibly passionate about addressing the causes of youth homelessness. He has a message for our politicians. Zayne works in disability care, is studying and helps raises awareness for the Foyer Foundation as we work together to achieve our vision to have 30 Foyers by 2030 #endyouthhomelessness #foyerlife
Foyers are committed to building a bank of evidence to continually demonstrate how our work will help change the trajectory of youth homelessness, education and employment outcomes and provide benefits to young people. Our snapshot will give you an insight into the young people who reside in Foyers, how they found Foyer, average age, stay and other key data. We believe Foyers can help young people avoid homelessness, improve mental health, enjoy reconnection with community and family, be engaged in work or study and have a safe, stable home style environment.
AFG partners with Foyer Foundation to tackle youth homelessness
Foyer Foundation is delighted to announce a landmark sponsorship agreement with AFG as their Principal Partner. A key component of the support will be the creation of the ‘AFG Independence Fund’, a series of grants accessible to all of Foyer’s young people tailored to contribute to their education, well-being and employment support pathways. The independence fund will remove barriers that often challenge our young people when striving for future goals, creating more opportunities for our young people, allowing them a chance to thrive.
Your donation will help us to advocate for a new, evidence-based approach to youth homelessness and support our young people as they engage with the Foyer programme.
Thanks to our Gold and Silver Sponsors, we look forward to partnering with them at the 2022 conference. Gold sponsors
