Dear friends,

I have just come back from Evian, France, where The Elders held their latest board meeting. We were meeting on the shores of Lake Geneva, but our concerns were focused on other shores and waters which today spell peril for countless refugees and migrants.

The plight of these people and the response of the international community is a matter of human rights and collective responsibility. Sadly neither of these notions has yet been at the forefront of political leaders’ minds.
