ISTO Celebrates 10 Years With Updated Website

The IEEE Industry Standards and Technology Organization (ISTO) celebrated its ten year anniversary this January.  ISTO was established in January 1999 as a global, not-for-profit corporation [501(c)(6)] designed to accelerate and extend standards development and adoption activities for technology industry consortia.  To help commemorate this milestone, the ISTO website has been completely redesigned.  The new site retains all the Program News information, including links to each Program, as well as ISTO News.  One new highlight of the site is the recently launched IEEE Conformity Assessment Program mini site.    Click here to visit the new website.

How To Write Maintainable Engineering Specifications by Forrest Warthman and Rob Johnson

The following article was written by Forrest Warthman and Rob Johnson, who are both Technical Editors for ISTO - An engineering specification serves several important functions. It clarifies agreement on design goals; serves as the learning guide for new hires in the engineering team; and often becomes a starting point for other essential documents, including patent applications, user documentation, and marketing collateral. In all of these functions, the audiences change but much of the specification’s content is reusable, if that content is written and formatted with maintainability in mind. This article describes some things that will make your specification maintainable and expandable over time. Examples using both Microsoft® Word and Adobe® FrameMaker® are presented.   Read the entire article here.
