Ride to the SunOnly four weeks or so until Ride to the Sun, so hope the bikes and bodies are in good nick! Over 780 folk signed up, which is incredible. But spread the word for folk that can still be persuaded. We’ll be doing another recce at some stage in the next month, so can’t wait – very excited for it all to be happening again. If you have any last minute queries check out our website HERE , or drop us an email or Facebook message if your question isn’t answered. We’ll send out more details about specific timings in the week or so before the event, but it’s effectively start when you want, so that you are aiming to get to Cramond for sunrise (4.30am) or thereabouts. To try and make it as sociable as possible we’ll have some sort of signage up at Bitts Park in Carlisle so that folk can team up with others of a similar pace or starting time. If you still need lights, have a look HERE for ideas. If you’re worried about the distance or how you’ll cope, check out HERE- for some top tips. Shand Cycles have been busy winning awards at Bespoked (Best Gravel Bike and Best Touring Bike) for their Stooshie and Stoater respectively. And one lucky finisher will get a frame and forks from Shand at Cramond beach, worth £1500! Etixx will provide some nutrition at the start in Carlisle, so make sure you are well stocked up. The chippy in Moffat will be open, there’ll be water / bananas at the Crook Inn in Tweedsmuir, and bacon sarnies to buy at the kirk hall at the end . But please make sure you have enough grub on you to see yourself round. If you’re Edinburgh based Graeme at Hart’s can sort you out with lights and a service for your bike. Bike Box Hire are giving away a Polaris RBS jacket if you like their Facebook page - click HERE. And please let Paul and Al at www.torm.cc know if you’re after a bespoke embroidered Ride to the Sun T11 black (with red/yellow stripes) top – they really are the dogs danglies and Gary and Fraser will be riding in theirs on June 18th. Final thing and we have had a few emails from folk, as the trains fill up, about options for getting bikes down to Carlisle. With that in mind we contacted Removal Services Scotland who can hire a lorry that will take up to 100 bikes. The cost would be £20.00 per bike and in principle they would be at an arrange place in Edinburgh on the afternoon of the 18th and be in Carlisle at 6.30 to deliver bikes. We need to know if this is something that folk would be interested in as there must be enough folk to make it viable and we are not picking up the tab for an empty lorry. If you are interested please contact us info@ridetothesun.co.uk and we can perhaps progress this as an option. Right, get some miles in while the weather is nice, and we’ll be back in touch in the couple of weeks before the event.
