Since 2014 Cairo Calling has brought musicians from Egypt and the UK together and explored the similarities between local DIY music scenes. A new film, chart-topping compilation and series of broadcasts from Rinse FM, supported by the British Council, celebrates the best of Cairo Calling to date and introduces the uninitiated to the Mahraganat sound.

London-based curator Ralph Rugoff, the director of London’s Hayward Gallery, has been appointed artistic director of the 2019 Venice Biennale. He is the first UK-based curator to be given the prestigious role and the first American to fill the post since Robert Storr in 2007. He has been the director of the Hayward since 2006 and in 2015 was artistic director of the 13th Biennale de Lyon.

The 2018 BAFTA nominations have been revealed, and this year's selection boasts a strong British presence with Martin McDonough's Three Billboards Outside of Ebbing, Missouri and Winston Chruchill biopic Darkest Hour both receiving nine nominations, including the categories of Outstanding British Film and Best Film.
