    Zephyrhills Sanitation Division teaches youth

As part of National School Choice Week, the City of Zephyrhills Public Works Sanitation Division gave a demonstration this morning for special needs students at The Broach School in Zephyrhills.

Students learned the ins and outs of residential solid waste collection and automated pickup.

Longtime sanitation supervisor Bobby Black, sanitation driver Donterrell Parker, and senior maintenance mechanic Jacob Hood were on hand to show 180 youth the ropes of the job.

The City's Sanitation Division does public outreach for a number of other schools in the area, as well.

Many have complimented Sanitation for its customer service, attention to detail, and well-maintained fleet.

City Hall Happenings

  • Zephyrhills City Council approved the selection of A.D. Morgan Corporation, awarding the contract for construction management services for Phase II of the Sarah Vande Berg Tennis Center. The project will yield additional outdoor tennis courts and a multi-purpose complex capable of hosting various sports activities, along with banquets and ceremonies.

  • Zephyrhills CRA Board of Commissioners approved the concept plan for the "Little But Loud" Backyard Park, to begin the development of schematic drawings. The Backyard Park, to be situated at the corner of 8th Street and 6th Avenue, is designed to create an exciting destination that residents and visitors alike can enjoy. It's marketed as an opportunity to create a centrally located place where young and old individuals and families can gather and celebrate the best of Zephyrhills; music, art, food or wares. The goal is to broaden the offerings of downtown by creating walkable connections from the side streets to 5th Avenue and visually from Gall Blvd.

  • Survey work has begun for the City's sidewalk project, which will yield roughly 10 miles of sidewalk throughout town; creating better walkable connections between neighborhoods, schools, and parks.

  • Zephyrhills Public Works is reviewing the final street signs plans for 5th Avenue; those signs should be ordered in the coming weeks.

  • Security cameras have been installed in the City's downtown area. The City's IT Department is working to transmit the video feeds to the Zephyrhills Police Department.
