Grade 2 Pollination Experiment 

Gillispie’s Grade 2 students got to practice being bees this week in the Science Bungalow! During this Earth Sciences unit, students created their own pollination devices using toothpicks and pipe cleaners.They ran from flower to flower
gently touching their “pollinators” to the plants’ stigma, which serves as a landing zone and entrance for fertilization.

 
 
 
 
 

NEW EC Art Atelier 

Our new art atelier serves as an art space specifically designed for the preschool-prekindergarten students. Students have enjoyed working on a number of fun projects in the space this month, including this prek whole-body clay working exercise.

 
 
 
 

P.E. Swim 

Grade 4 enjoyed their last day of P.E. swim early this month. With fall upon us, our elementary students will take a hiatus from weekly swimming to focus on other

Fall Family Night 

Thank you to everyone who helped make this year’s Fall Family Night an amazing success! It was a blast!

Community Service Highlight 

This month, both Grade 5 classes served lunch to the homeless at St. Vincent de Paul Village in downtown San Diego. The Village provides housing, meals, and a variety of services to members of our local homeless population.

“I love teaching and learning! I strive to ignite a passion for learning in all of my students, create authentic and meaningful learning experiences,

South American Soccer

Gillispie Grade 4 classes competed in a traditional South American soccer tournament this month on the field! The Grade 4 continent of study is South America, and this activity was a crossover of their Spanish language, geography and social studies curriculum.

Grade 3 Fantastic Mr. Fox

The class recently read the book Fantastic Mr. Fox. The book ends with the animals agreeing to live underground in tunnels forever.

The students were given an assignment
to predict what the tunnels might look
like in the future. Some children added
new characters and were really creative
with their interpretations.

Each student shared his or her tunnel
