Fall is Right Around
the Corner

Take Advantage of the Cooler Weather and Abundant Rainfall to Come!

It's not easy to grow grass in our climate, and this year has been no exception. The wet, cool spring followed by a hot, dry summer took their toll. Weeds love this kind of weather, and the good grass that we do want in our lawns struggles to survive. Don't be discouraged, though, because the weather is changing.

Fall is Perfect for Lawn Improvements

Now is the time to revitalize your turf by aerating and seeding with the new varieties of drought- and disease-resistant grasses. After all, the best way to avoid weeds is to cultivate a dense, healthy lawn. The weather is milder now, and new grass seed will have less competition from weed seeds trying to grow. Aerating and seeding now will give the new grass plenty of time to get established before spring arrives.

Aeration and Seeding is One of the Best Things You Can Do for Your Lawn

Core aeration and seeding is usually recommended on an annual basis to reduce soil compaction and help slow thatch build-up. Aeration creates growth pockets for roots to expand and opens the way for air, water and fertilizer to get into the root zone of your lawn. If you core aerate this fall, it will be the perfect time to plant seed. Over a period of several years, annual core aeration and seeding with new, improved varieties will add greatly to the overall quality and appearance of your yard.

If you are planning on seeding this fall, please give us a call and let us know so that we can adjust your lawn care applications, irrigation scheduling and winterization accordingly.

Prevention Tips

Dandelions begin to grow in the fall, storing food in their roots in preparation for winter. If you are on our Lawn Care Program, fall-applied herbicides will be sent along the food stream to the roots, killing the entire plant! Make sure you are scheduled for a Broadleaf Weed Control Application in October and Get a "Leg Up" on Spring Weeds!

Go Green!

Did you know? Eight healthy front lawns have the natural cooling effect of 70 tons of air conditioning...enough for 16 average homes! Healthy grass is good for the environment, and it saves money and energy too.
