Take a Reading Break: Responsible Management, Incentive Systems, and Productivity Article’s author: Ivan Hilliard In recent years, we have witnessed an explosion of interest in the field of CSR, driven by a range of social, cultural, technological, economic, political, and environmental motives. From the appearance of the ethical, informed consumer to the rise of the global supply chain. A disconnect remains between theories about responsible management and application in real-life organizations. Part of the reason is due to the complexity and holistic nature of the field and the fact that many benefits of aligning business objectives with changing societal conditions are intangible. Human resource management is an increasingly important part of the field, with benefits including talent retention, higher levels of motivation, and improvements in organizational cohesion. Based on the Corporate Social Performance model, we examine the issue from the point of view of responsibilities, responsiveness, and outcomes and consider the cost/benefit effect of incorporating a social responsibility variable into the wage structure to measure the impact on productivity. Responsible Management-as-Practice: Mobilizing a Post-humanist ApproachArticle's authors: Silvia Gherardi and Oliver LaaschThe emerging field of responsible management (RM) studies integrating sustainability, responsibility, and ethics in managerial practices. Therefore, turning to practice theories for studying RM appears to hold great promise for conceptual and methodological contribution. The authors propose a post humanist practice approach for studying RM-as-practice. Managerial practices are conceived as the advancement of heterogeneous elements (humans, nonhumans, more-than-humans, materials, and discourses) that achieve agency in their being interconnected. Thus, RM is understood as processual, relational, emergent, and socio-material. We contribute a framework for the empirical study of RM-as-practice based on three sensitizing concepts: situatedness, socio-materiality, and textures. They further discuss the implications of understanding responsibility as response-ability, an engaged practice for relating to the other and the RM researcher’s role as internal to the practice under study, thus, opening the debate on our response-ability.
