Dear friends, It is a privilege to introduce myself as the new Director of SPIDER. Having worked as an ICT4D adviser and researcher for the past 14 years, I welcome this opportunity to apply my knowledge and experience to strengthen the work of SPIDER. We are now looking ahead to our next phase of operation, 2011 to 2013.In the coming months, we will improve our work in a number of ways: Network - We will continue to expand our network in ICT4D and promote collaboration between academia, public sector, private sector, and civil society. Organisation - We will sharpen our working methods to become as lean and transparent as possible. It will become clearer what we do, why, and how. Themes - Democracy, health and education are of crucial importance to us, and we will continue to develop and transform these priorities into concrete projects and activities. We are firm believers in exploring smart and innovative ICT4D interventions and partnerships, and look forward to collaborating with you to achieve our goals. This year we welcome David Isaksson, Gudrun Dahl, Anette Scheibe, Vasilis Koulolias and Laura Hosman as new members of our board, along with Gunnar Landgren (Chairman), Love Ekenberg and Ulf Pehrsson from the previous board. We are confident that this board will strengthen our efforts to support the strategic use of ICT for development and poverty reduction. We also have new staff members at the SPIDER secretariat. Dr. Iskra Popova and Johan Hellström have now joined the team of Daniel Berggren, Magda Berhe Johnsson and Helen Belcastro. I look forward to a prosperous 2011 together with you all. Sincerely, Dr. Paula Uimonen |
